Ratio Word Problem

Question

The Eagles have won 40% of their games at one point in the season. They play 15 more games, winning 10 and losing 5. They have an exact 50-50 win-loss record at the end of the season. How many wins and losses do they have at the end?

 

 

 

Also, what specific topic does this fall into? When I try to practice these types of problems online, i search up ratios and I get these easy kindergarten math problems.

Answer 1

let 40% = .40; let 60% = .60; let g = the number of games they play in a season.

 

So:  .40(g) + 10 = .60(g) + 5

 

Solve for g

 

If they won 40%, then presumably they lost 60%

 

The win side of the equation is on the left and the lose side of the equation is on the right.

 

If they close the season at 50% and 50%, then the wins and loses are equal.
