A box with a square base has a volume of 16 in³. The height of the box is twice as long as the length of the sides of the square base. What is the height of the box?

Let x = one side of the square base.

Then the height would be 2x.

 

Since volume is length times width times height, V = (x)(x)(2x) or 16 = 2x³

 

Divide by 2 and cube root it to get x = 2.

 

The height is twice that.
