If one wanted to help insulate their house, by replacing their windows made of the same material, would it be better to have, smaller windows (say let A = ½ original) or thicker glass (say twice as thick)?

 

a. Smaller area
b. Thicker glass
c. Both these examples would give same result

Heat flow is directly proportional to the area of the glass, and inversely proportional to the thickness of the glass.

 

So I would say the answer is c.
