Area measures the space inside the shape, while Perimeter measures the distance around the outside of that shape. What that means is that Perimeter is a 1D measurement of the boundary, whereas Area is a 2D measurement of how much space is enclosed within a shape's perimeter.
I hope that helps get you moving in a good direction! Feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions beyond that :)

Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
Area is 2 dimensional
Perimeter is 1 dimensional
Area is measured in square units
Perimeter is measured in simple units
Volume is 3 dimensional, measured in cubic units
1 cubic yard = 1 yard by 1 yard by 1 yard = 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet = 27 cubic feet
1 yd^2 = 27 ft^3 = 27(12^3) cubic inches = 46,656 in^3
1 yd^3 = 36^3 in = 46,656 cubic inches

Imagine wanting to build a play area in your backyard. You'll have to find the perfect area for this. You don't want it to be too big or too small. You'll also need to put up a fence along the perimeter of your play area to keep out any unwanted guests.
You can find the area of your play area really easily--with multiplication. Just multiply 2 numbers: the length (that's how long the play area is) by the width (that's how wide your play area is).
Why would you need to find the area of the play area? Some people like to put down artificial grass because it is cool and doesn't need to be mowed. If the play area is small, you won't need as much artificial grass. If your play area is bigger, you'll need to buy more.
Let's say the length is 20 feet (20 ft) and the width is 15 feet (15 ft). Multiplying those two numbers together makes 300 square feet (300 ft2).
20 ft x 15 ft = 300 ft2
Three hundred square feet just means that the play area fits 300 squares (imagine floor tiles) that are 1 foot long and 1 foot wide each. It's important to include the exponent (2) with the unit of measure (ft) because if you write 300 ft without the exponent, you are making a very long line and not squares to fill your play area.
Now to protect the play area! We need some sort of a fence around the perimeter of the play area. To find the perimeter, just add twice (2 times) the length of the play area + twice (2 times) the width of the play area. This will give you the amount of fence you need.
20 ft (one length)
20 ft (the opposite length)
15 ft (one width)
+ 15 ft (the opposite width)
70 ft
Did you notice that 70 ft has no exponent 2? That's because it is linear (line) feet. You could take a rope and place it along the perimeter of the play area. Then, you could pull the rope straight into a line because that's what perimeter is--a line in different shapes!

Hi!
The area and perimeter are used to refer to a kind of measurement of different 2-Dimensional shapes (shapes with only width and length). To explain it simply, the perimeter of a shape refers to the length around a shape or the length of the border of a shape, while the area refers to the space measured within a shape. Here's some examples to differentiate between the two in the following image link!

To summarize, the perimeter of the shape could be seen as the distance of the border of a closed shape, while the area of the shape could be seen as the total space within a closed shape.
I hope this helps!

My Notes: Area vs. Perimeter
Area is the space inside of a 2-D shape.
A= Length x Width Area of a Rectangle = Length x Width
( You must have both side in the same units ( ex. feet, inches, miles )
Perimeter is the distance around the outside of a 2-D shape.
P= S+S+S+S
Perimeter of a Rectangle = Side+ Side+ Side+ Side
P= S+S+S
Perimeter of a triangle = Side + Side= Side
Hint: 2-d- stand for 2 Dimensional . These are flat shapes. Like a piece of paper is a Rectangle .
