How do I create a strong composition?

A good composition draws in the viewer, and guides their attention to the area of interest in your artwork. What are some approaches to creating a compelling work of landscape art?

I have a ton of opinions on this, but basically you need to study other peoples images a lot. 90% of your tome studying and 10% trying to invent your own ideas.

In landscape art, there are many techniques you can use to guide the viewer’s eye and create a strong composition. You might work with value contrasts—light and dark—to build depth, or use linear and atmospheric perspective to suggest space. Emphasizing shapes, balancing horizontal and vertical elements, and playing with detail versus abstraction are all powerful tools. In my classes, I’ll teach you how to apply these approaches to create compelling, expressive landscapes.
