CMHC Graduate with Strong Foundation in Sociology Concepts
Improving your understanding of psychology concepts and theories is all about breaking them down into manageable pieces and finding ways to make them meaningful. Here are some tips based on my own experience as a CMHC graduate and my passion for the field:
- Relate theories to real life: Psychology theories might seem abstract at first, but applying them to real-world examples can help make them more relatable and easier to understand. For example, when studying Erikson’s stages of psychosocial development, think about how the different stages of identity vs. role confusion or intimacy vs. isolation show up in people’s lives at various ages. This real-life connection makes these concepts easier to grasp.
- Use active learning techniques: Instead of passively reading, try using flashcards, practice quizzes, or even teaching the material to someone else. Teaching is one of the best ways to reinforce what you've learned. I also love using mind maps to connect related ideas and see how theories fit together.
- Break down complex ideas: Psychology is full of complex theories and concepts, but breaking them down into smaller, manageable parts makes them much easier to digest. I’ll work with you to simplify complex material and help you grasp the key points without feeling overwhelmed.
- Engage with the material creatively: Sometimes, simply reading or listening to lectures isn’t enough. I encourage students to engage with psychology in creative ways, whether that’s through discussions, videos, or even psychological documentaries. These can bring concepts to life and make the material more engaging.
- Stay motivated and curious: Psychology is a field that constantly evolves, and there’s always something new to learn! Staying curious and enthusiastic about the subject will make your studies much more enjoyable. My goal is to help you develop that same passion and enthusiasm for psychology, so learning feels exciting instead of stressful.
Whether you’re just starting out or deep into your studies, I’m here to help you navigate psychology in a way that feels clear, engaging, and manageable. Let’s dive into the fascinating world of psychology together!
