The effect the 78% grade will have on your current 97% depends on how many scores are involved in calculating the 97%.
Suppose you had just one test score of 97% followed by the 78%. Your average then would be:
(97+78)/2 = 87.5 nearly a drop of 10%.
Now suppose that your current 97% was achieved based on 10 test scores. That means the average of your 10 test scores was determined by adding up the 10 scores and dividing by 10. If we let S10 represent the sum of your 10 test scores, then S10/10 = 97, i.e. S10 = 970. After taking your 11th test and getting a score of 78% the new average would be calculated like this:
(S10 + 78) / 11
(970 + 78) / 11
About 95.3% not even a drop of 2%.
The more scores used to create your current 97%, the less effect the latest 78% score has on your overall average.
