The difference is mainly in how they sound and feel:
- "We continued to talk" can suggest that there was a pause or break, and then we started talking again.
- "We continued talking" implies that we were already talking and just kept going without stopping.
Both mean almost the same thing, but "We continued talking" sounds more like the conversation flowed without a break.
