I read Great Gatsby as a graduate student in American literature. The next project was to compare the love triangle of Sir Lancelot, King Arthur, and Queen Guinevere to the adulterous affair of Daisy (Zelda), Tom, and Gatsby , entrapped by the dream of owning power through wealth in the elusive of the class-dominated society of the nouveau riche of gamblers, grifter, and corrupt gangsters who fixed the World Series and profited from prohibition.

Hello! I've taught Great Gatsby several times (a few years ago). There are several flashbacks in the story, mostly about Gatsby's past. I'd be happy to have a tutoring session with you to go more into detail.

One flashback for your assignment would be from a scene in chapter 8 when Gatsby is talking about the first time he saw Daisy's beautiful house. He discusses the differences in their financial situations. He has no money and is "penniless," while Daisy "vanished into her rich house, into her rich, full life, leaving Gatsby -- nothing."
