Yes! Dramatic irony is a literary device used by playwrights and novelists when the audience (or reader) is aware of an important plot point, but the main characters are oblivious (unaware) of the situation. One example from classic literature would be Romeo and Juliet. The audience sees Juliet drink sleeping potion, but when Romeo finds her, he assumes she is dead. The character is unaware of an important fact, but the audience/reader knows the whole story.
