SAT PREP - Problem 1

Harry and Terry are each told to calculate $8-(2+5)$. Harry gets the correct answer. Terry ignores the parentheses and calculates $8-2+5$. If Harry's answer is $H$ and Terry's answer is $T$, what is $H-T$?

$\textbf{(A) }-10\qquad\textbf{(B) }-6\qquad\textbf{(C) }0\qquad\textbf{(D) }6\qquad \textbf{(E) }10$

Raymond B, that is a very good thing to point out, since some Order of Operations questions have gone unfortunately viral. At least in this problem it does say that one of the students, Terry, ignores the parentheses. It doesn’t consider that Terry could be misled or confused by “3rd grade grammar”. As yet, I have not come across a set of instructions for the Order of Operations that allows one to ignore the Groupings/Parentheses regardless of grammar. Ignoring the Parentheses is a big error(sorry for the poor grammar) but you make a very good point.
