Hi, I have some great ideas for studying for the reading and writing sections of the SAT. Using the practice tests is a great place to start, but it is also important to have a learning goal for each study sessions. Sometimes it can be more beneficial to focus on one type of question at a time and develop strategies for answering that type of question.
For the reading section, it is important to practice reading the passage quickly and efficiently. I have a simple protocol that I teach students, which they can use to identify the main points in any reading passage.
For the writing section, you will need to become familiar with common "syntax errors" in order to recognize them and correct them. This is one of the easiest ways to increase your score because it is simple memorization. I teach students 8 different syntax errors, and we use "skill and drill" style practice to quickly identify the error and how to fix it.
The last thing to practice is general test-taking strategies. This includes time management, ruling out incorrect answers, using the information provided in the questions to identify the answers, and other test-taking strategies.
Let me know if you have any other questions; I would be happy to help you study for the test!
