To write an improper fraction as a mixed number, do the division, then take the remainder over the denominator to get your mixed number:

1) 41/20--this divides to 2, remainder 1. This equates to: 2 1/20

2) 38/9--works essentially the same way, divides to 4 remainder 2, equates to: 4 2/9

3) 70/13 Again, do the division and note the remainder. This is 5, remainder 5, final answer 5 5/13

4)76/9 Divide and note the remainder--this is 8 remainder 4, final answer 8 4/9

Now, to convert from mixed number to improper fraction, we need to essentially reverse the process. In the whole number you are given, we need to know how many of whatever fractional denominator we are given are present within it. For example:

5) 2 3/5 The number 2 has 10/5 in it--10/5 is equivalent to 2. So, we know we have at least ten fifths right off the bat. We then must add 3/5 to it. This is:

(10/5) +(3/5)= 13/5

6) This works the same way. 5=25/5, then we have three more fifths on top of that, so:

(25/5) + (3/5) = 28/5

7) Again, 6=42/7, then we have an additional seventh, so we have:

(42/7) + (1/7) = 43/7

8) 11=99/9, then we have four more ninths, so:

(99/9) +(4/9) = 103/9

To change an improper fraction to a mixed number, just divide the numerator by the denominator.

For 41/20 you'll get 2 and 1 left over, so the mixed number result is 2 1/20. The denominator of the fraction part is the same as in the original improper fraction, the 1 (remainder) is the numerator.

To check (convert mixed number to improper fraction), reverse the process. Multiply denom (20) by 2 and add the 1. (20 x 2 + 1 = 41) The 41 is the numerator of the improper fraction and the denominator is unchanged.

For 2 3/5, the mixed number equivalent is 5 x 2 + 3, or 13/5. Check by dividing as in 1st paragraph above.
