Hitler was appealing to the reaction against the humiliation Germany suffered after WW1
Hitler admired Nietzsche, and would regularly visit a museum where Nietzsche's sculptured head was on public display, to admire it. Hitler edited Nietzsche's writings to make it seem he was in favor of creating a super race, the German race, like Darwin's survival of the fittest, with Germans the fittest race, the Aryan race.
but Poland was more a matter of the majority population, with many areas of Poland mostly German. It was like Russia today claiming areas of the Ukraine due to their majority Russian populations. Seems reasonable? If countries are primarily about race and ethnicity? Or is nationhood about something greater than its ethnic percentages? or like Mexico claiming Southwest America as "temporarily occupied territories" in its maps. Should the US give back to Mexico California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and parts of Utah, Nevada and Colorado? They all used to be part of Mexico And today, increasingly more Mexican national population.
Territorial disputes are worldwide throughout history. Florida and Georgia have had disputes over their common border. Canada and the US disputed its borders with "44 40 or fight" a near major war over the border.
What makes Germany singularly guilty of massive war crimes for disputing its borders? (ignoring the Holocaust, for the moment-- original Nuremberg trial charges were for Kellogg-Brand violations, not any Holocaust charges)
