Maurice Bucaille was a French doctor and gastroenterology specialist who served as the family physician of Faisal of Saudi Arabia in 1973 and treated members of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat's family. He is most famous for his book The Bible, The Qur'an and Science, which he wrote after studying the mummy of the Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II. The book argued that the Quran is a divine revelation and contains scientifically accurate facts, which gave rise to the movement of Bucailleism, promoting the idea of relating modern science with religion, particularly Islam. Bucailleism is seen as the Muslim counterpart to Christian creationism, as it embraces modern science rather than rejecting it. Bucaille's work had a significant impact on the understanding of religion and science in the Muslim world.
