In feudalism, Medieval Lords owned land and serfs worked on it in exchange for the bare minimum of shelter and food. The Lords extracted the surplus value of the serfs‘ labor, meaning the serfs, who were basically just extremely poor people, worked for very cheap on the Lords’ land and the majority of the money was funneled upwards into the Lords’ pockets. There are reasons that the system is not in place anymore, as it not only is incredible human rights abuses, but it is also a terrible economic system. Lords, in history, are considered among the greediest, most exploitative humans specific to their time period. But, they enjoyed their riches and extravagant lifestyles while they could.
