Using the comments below write a paragraph that synthesize the three comments to make a point about performance-based funding in community college. It have to be the ideas you thought and evidence/support in the form of a summary.
Three comments:
Carl Rogers-I disagree with that development because it is unfair to passing and non-passing students. If that development passes the college will get less funding, which means less resources. Resources are used to help students pass classes. Resources such as free tutoring, computers, and modern technology advances help students improve their grades. Having less resources will take away from the school and may cause an increase in bad grades. I think schools should not get less funding because of students failing classes because unfortunately that is some part of going to school. Students sometimes have to repeat classes that they struggle in and neither the school nor the student should be penalized for that.
Kris Irving-The development of performance-based funding is something that I am on the fence about. On one hand, I agree with the development because it calls the staff and professors to action to really push students to their maximum potential and believe in themselves that they can truly be successful. On the other hand, the staff and professors can only push as hard as the students allow them to. Unfortunately, not every student has the true desire to learn and is in school for the right reason; should the school really be punished for a student's laziness and incapability? You can not help someone that does not want the help. Like all new developments, I certainly feel like this one has potential to help make improvements in our education system, but i certainly feel as though the implementation of this development should proceed with caution.
Matthew Winston-Performance-based funding programs create more problems than solutions. The intentions are good, however, it could lead to a diminished reputation for public education. While most teachers are honest I'm afraid many will be tempted to cheat the system. It may be easy to administer inflated or unearned grades if funding is at stake. I believe funding should be based on the amount of students enrolled in order to maintain the integrity of these institutions
