Juror 5 is one of the younger jurors in the room. He grew up in the slums and identifies with prejudices which exist against individuals like the accused. He initially votes guilty but declines to expand upon his reasons for voting this way. This shows that he is, in part, yielding to the prevailing motions within the room and allowing the senior members to have control through a maintaining of the status quo. However, Juror 5 is a man of honor and, in wanting to be an objective voice for truth, he later changes his vote to not guilty when the room is presented with reasonable suspicion of innocence.
