I'm not sure if you are asking for my personal learning goals are or those that I have for my students, so I will answer both.
My goal is for my students to have them go away. Nothing makes me happier than being fired. I love to hear my students tell me, "Thanks. I got it from here." I do this by not just teaching the material, not just teaching study habits and test taking techniques. I teach my students to evalutate themselves. To look at their progress critically and to see their where they excel and where they need help. I teach them how to brainstorm ideas for helping themselves. I teach decision making. I help my students to set reasonable goals that stretch them, not break them. How long that takes is a very individual issue. It depends on what their goals are, where they are starting, and how much time/effort they can put in.
My personal learning goals are to keep up with the latest developments in education, ADHD, mental health, criminal corrections, and adolencent psychology. I do this in many ways. You will often find me listening to lectures, watching documentaries, reading journals. But just as often I can be found having deep discussions with other professionals, such as physcians, psychiatrists, teachers, school and corrections administrators, medicine men/women, and other tutors. I also learn a lot from my students, by listening to their goals and problems, by trying out new methods, by getting their feedback. It's sort of a rolling goal and I have some powerful executive functioning disorder going on, so I don't have a timetalble. I don't do that. I work better when I leave the timetable open and make a daily evaluation of where I am and what I would like to get done that day.
I hope these answers help.
I started tutoring in high school, so I got a lot of hands on training from my teachers at that time. I went on to get my degree in English/Writing, minoring in Sociology. On top of that, I took a lot of classes in Philosophy, Psychology, and Education, just for my own edification. I have also studied and received certification in TEFL, IELTS prep, and ADHD coaching.
