Hi, Falisha, a summary is usually about 1/3 of the length of the original text (so the chapter indicated). In the summary, you should focus on the main ideas or key ideas that the author lays out in the chapter. Questions to ask yourself before writing would be: What is the chapter about overall? Is there a clear way to see the author's main points in the way that the paragraphs are organized? What are the overall main supporting points the author uses to illustrate or prove their argument or claim without providing too much detail?
A summary includes only the overall main idea of the chapter and the supporting main points. The smaller details would be left out. It would also be helpful to find a template of a chapter summary online or an example that is annotated so you can see what the writer put in it. Make sure to include the author of the chapter and the chapter name in your summary. I hope this helps. Please reach out to me if you'd like to discuss this more.
