Poor experience with Kristine H

Hi,

I wanted to try a Wyzant tutor. According to your website, the first lesson is a free assessment. I reached out to a tutor, Kristine H, who immediately talked about pricing and fees. I told her that I was expecting a first free assessment call. She immediately cancelled the class. Very disappointing.

The first lesson is backed by a guarantee. You only pay if your tutor is a good fit and you were satisfied with that first lesson. If you weren't, then you don't pay anything

Hello Antoine,

I believe there was a misunderstanding on your end. Wyzant offers the first hour of tutoring for free if you are not satisfied with the lesson. This is based on their Good Fit Guarantee which is explained in the link. You are not guaranteed a first free lesson just because you asked a tutor.

Only a few tutors offer their first lesson for free. This would be shown on their profile page.

Also please keep tutors' name anonymous when posting a public question.

Your first encounter sounds frustrating, but I think there is a misunderstanding about the "First Hour Free" slogan. This is all information from the Wyzant platform FAQ's:

"Tutors decide if they are willing to conduct an interview free of charge. Some tutors include this information on their profile, so be sure to check! If you're still not sure, you can use Wyzant Messages to reach out to tutors that might be a great fit for you and ask about a free first meeting."

"We’re confident that you'll connect with a tutor who's a good fit for your needs, but if you feel that the tutor is not a good fit, your first hour with a new tutor is protected by Wyzant's Good Fit Guarantee.

This means that if you meet with a tutor and feel that this tutor is not a good fit for your tutoring needs after the first lesson, we can issue you a refund for the first hour of this lesson."

Also, you posted on a message board, not to customer service. The message board is a place where tutors offer advice or consult on small questions for free. Hope this helps if you continue to move forward on this website.
