What does this sentence convey? The phrasing confuses me.

Each artifact he finds

he puts under the microscope.

It's in present tense, so does that mean he analyzes the artifacts as he finds them? He finds an artifact, analyzes it and so on.

It means that is his general approach.

Most likely, that is. What is it you are reading if I may ask?

It's song lyrics that I'm working on: He lies on back. Shuts gigantic eyes. Deep dives under-thought in quest of why he's stunted. Each artifact in his quest he finds he puts under the scope and then knows why he's stunted. His parents had the neglectful type of rear style. that's the reason why he's stunted. Resurfaces from dive. Opens gigantic eyes. Staring at the orange peel heavens, resentment-soaked, from a floor mattress. He's stunted.

I see. So you wrote the sentence?

Yes. I think it means what i intended but I'm unsure. I intended it to be a summary of what happens in his quest, but the present tense throws me off for some reason.

Well, in this context, it's also not actually artifacts that you're talking about. I'm curious. If I may ask, where did you find the sentence?

I'm using "artifacts" as a metaphor for memories. So i'm saying that the memories (artifacts) he finds he analyzes. In the previous line, he sets out on a quest, and the following verse is supposed to be the summary of that quest.
