Im not 100% sure what "each" means here. Does it mean he finds artifacts one at a time?

Each artifact

In his quest he finds

He puts under the scope.

If "each" refers to an individual artifact in the group doesn't that mean that he finds the artifacts one by one, or am i misunderstanding?

More information would be required to determine that. For instance, he might find a group of artifacts at the same time, or he might find them individually, or in pairs, etc. The "each" in this particular sentence does not refer to the act of finding artifacts. It refers to the act of putting artifacts under a scope. We can infer he puts EACH artifact, one at a time, individually, under the scope. We can't infer, however, whether he found them individually or otherwise.
