And don't confuse Protagonist and Antagonist with Heroism and Villainy.
Macbeth is the protagonist, that is a structural and story conceit.
Other characters are getting in the way of what Macbeth wants.
They are the antagonists in the story structure.
Heroism and Villainy are moral characteristics.
Macbeth's morals may not match your own, but that doesn't keep him from being the protagonist of the story.
