What's the purpose of government investment in public works and institutions? Give some examples from chapter 3.
Copy a quote from chapter 2 that you consider being a golden line. I use the term, golden line, to refer to a sentence that stands out in some way. Either you think it's interesting and complex in some way or it's a good example of how a particular false belief can lead to a harmful consequence. Copy the quote in a sentence, indicating who said it and what page it's on (See the model I've bolded in #3 below for correct quote format!) Then tell us your thoughts about it and what questions you have for your classmates.
McGhee writes, "In the Inequality Era brought to us by racist dog-whistle politics, white voters are less hostile to government policies that promote economic equality than the party they most often vote into power" (36). To help unpack the meaning of this quote, watch this video lecture by Ian Haney Lopez, McGhee's law professor. Take notes as you listen. Then explore your understanding of "racist dog-whistle politics" in the discussion. That is, what is dog-whistle politics, who uses it, and why? Explain an example of this political strategy from Lopez's lecture and/or from TSOU.
