How to give a verbal answer on how to solve this subtraction problem
I am planning a VERBAL answer on how to solve the following problem.
105 - 99 = ?
I know how I am planning to VERBALLY describe how to solve it, step-by-step, but what about you?
Thank you so much. As the mathematical solution on paper might be very easy to many people, sometimes a verbal description can help.
Thank you so much!

Actually, here is how I would verbally help an Elementary Math student to solve the problem. My verbal answer may or may not be how you'd verbally describe it).
First, we examine the rightmost digits row-wise, which are 5 and 9. (At this point in our learning, our subtraction problems only deal with values of 0 and greater. Thus, to subtract 9 from 5 we will need to "borrow" a whole number from the next leftmost digit in the top row in order to calculate the difference. The top row then becomes the value 15 and the difference of 15 and 9 is 6.
Thus, for our rightmost digit we write a 6. Since we've "borrowed" or increased 1 whole number value, we correspondingly subtract one number from the two left digits on the top row. The top row then becomes 10 minus 1, which is 9.
Then, as we have 9 on the top row and 9 on the bottom row, we calculate 9 minus 9, which is 0. Thus, we can leave that digit blank.)
Thus, our solution row is simply 6.
Thus, 105 - 99 = 6. (We can check our work by adding 99 and 6, which is indeed 105.)
If any of this could be improved, please feel welcome to improve it. thank you.
(I would have inputted the above in the "Add comment" area, but apparently that area doesn't support carriage returns.)
