A ballad form is a form of verse poetry. It is often a narrative set to music. A traditional ballad has four lines per stanza. To help identify if a poem is a ballad form, look for examples in "Fate slew him, but He did not drop," that supports the claim that it is a narrative that tells the story.
A lyric poem emphasize emotions of the SPEAKER. That means that a ballad would be different.
I hope this helps!
