If you're referring to the girls gathering in the woods...
This scene is crucial to the trajectory of the play. Not only is it the inciting event for the plot, but it also demonstrates the strict values and expectations of theocratic Salem. A bunch of girls dancing and playing in the woods isn't a big deal by today's standards, but back then the girls might as well have been dancing with the devil.
This scene also demonstrates amazing characterization for Abigail Williams. She is the ringleader of the group and the only one who does something truly morally questionable; killing a chicken and drinking its blood as a charm to kill the wife of the man she loves.
