These are good tips, although, as other experts have mentioned above, it is also important to have a good strategy to begin thinking about the topic and how you are going to address it in the first place. Once you have a good grasp on precisely what you will be arguing and how, then the tips above can be very useful.
I think a particularly important point here is to keep in mind that each body paragraph is, indeed, just a mini essay: it needs to have a clear starting sentence ("intro"), which will lead to or be supported by 2 or 3 middle sentences ("body"), which will, in turn, be followed by a closing sentence ("conclusion") that ideally draws a link to the next paragraph. This will make your essay stronger and will make it easier for the reader to understand with ease where you are coming from and where you are going with your argument.
