In the book "Of Mice and Men", the main theme is that living life as a farmer is hard work. Additionally, having the lifestyle of a farmer who often moves from place to place can make things even tougher. Finally, George is struggling inside of his mind. He switches between a positive/negative mindset while also remembering that he made a promise to his aunt. He feels an obligation to take care of Lennie at all costs.
