According to the usual simplifying diagrams, the conflict creates "rising action" that causes tension and leads to the "climax" (think: big action scene). Then there's "falling action" (consequences) leading to a conclusion that is sometimes referred to as the denouement (de NEW mon, or de NEW mont) - it's French for "unknotting." That's probably the word you want. So, in short, you tell a story by showing us some nice threads, tying nasty tight knots in them, making it seem like they can't be untied, and then showing how they untie at the end.

A newer term that is used in schools is "resolution." This reflects the tendency to use simpler language rather than foreign words that have no real meaning in English.10/09/21
