Fruits are often sweet so that they attract animals to eat them. One adaptation that many seeds have is to allow the acids and digestive processes to nick/dissolve the coat of the seed. Often the seed is excreted in the fecal matter which is nutrient rich. The plant embryo will have additional nutrients beyond the endosperm after the radicle forms and the plant begins to grow. Nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus are often a limiting factor in plant growth. Knowing that such nutrients will be available is an advantage. Other adaptations which are occurring with climate change include phenological changes, where warmer temperatures and more wet conditions can signal an earlier spring or a later fall.
