Hi there!
They are definitely related, but have slightly different meanings. "Interesting" denotes that something is "of interest" or in other words, prompts further exploration of the subject.
So for example, a sentence may read "The book was interesting to Henry." This means that the book prompted thought and reflection for Henry.
"Pleasing" denotes that something is "pleasurable" or in other words brings enjoyment to those who encounter it. So in a sentence, "The book was pleasing to Henry." This means that the book brought joy or pleasure to Henry.
In that sentence, either word was applicable, but in other sentences one may be more appropriate than the other. For example, it would be odd to describe a cake as "interesting" but it would be fitting to describe it as "pleasing" because a cake is more likely to bring pleasure than prompt interest. Similarly, a mathematics textbook may be "interesting" but it may not really invoke "pleasure."
So in short, while they can be used in similar contexts, they have slightly different meanings.
Hope this helps!
