"Pleasing" and "interesting" are similar in that they are both adjectives, and they both have a (somewhat) positive connotation. "Pleasing" can imply an aesthetic appeal, whereas "interesting" would usually be well suited for referring to the arousal of one's curiosity or interest.
"Interesting" is, in addition, a more neutral adjective than "pleasing". Even though they both have a somewhat positive connotation, the adjective "interesting" can be used in essays to highlight or bring attention to a point, whereas the adjective "pleasing" would inherently carry the writer's prejudices in regards to the object or concept that is "pleasing" to him/ her.
