Hunter wants to rent a jet ski while he and his family are in Florida for vacation. It costs $10 an hour to rent one of the jet skis.
- Make a table showing the total cost for renting the jet ski from 0 to 6 hours.
- Write an equation to express the possible cost to rent a jet ski. Let c represent the total cost and h represent the number of hours.
- Identify the independent and dependent variables.
- How much will it cost to rent the jet ski for 8 hours?

We know the jetski rental is $10 per hour, so the equation would be c=10h
Looking at this question, it seems that the way to solve it is to create an input/output table. Here's what I mean. You would keep going until you reach 8 hours.
input output
1 10
So for this example, you could substitute "number of hours" for the input value and "total cost" for the output value.
As far as the independent and dependant variable, I was taught that the independent variable is the one that "I control." This means that the independent variable is the variable you can change, which would be indicated by the "input" label on your table.. The dependent variable is what is being "measured" in problems like this, the "output" label would be your dependent variable.
I hope this helps you.

In order to make the table, you would need one side of the table labeled "Hours" and the other side of the table labeled "Total Cost to Rent Jet Ski". For the "Hours" side of the table, number the hours from 0 to 6. Then multiply $10 by each number from 0 to 6 ( 10X0; 10X1, 10X2, 10X3, 10X4, 10X5, and 10X6). By multiplying $10 by each number of hour, you will then get the total cost for each number of hours rented).
The equation to express the possible cost to rent a jet ski is C=10h.
The independent variable is the variable that you change. In this particular problem number of hours is the independent variable and the dependent variable is the variable that becomes different after changing the independent variable, so in this problem total cost changes each time you change the number of hours. Total cost is the dependent variable.
To rent the jet ski for 8 hours, it would cost $80 because $10 multiplied by 8 hours is 80.
