Q; A game consists of rolling a die.

  1. A game consists of rolling a die. If an even number shows, you receive double the value of the upper face in points. If an odd number shows, you lose points equivalent to triple the value of the upper face.

a) What is the expectation?

b) Is this game fair? Explain.

This is what I have done so far,

As I added all of the numbers from the xP(x), I got 0.165 but I believe it is wrong. Please help with this question, thank you and provide a good explanation for each.

You are welcome. My initial response to problem and your answer was "looks good to me." I didn't see the problem until after I tried replicating the number in Excel, just for fun! Good work, but it does demonstrate how easily mistakes can be made when doing repetitive calculations. Repetitive calculations are super easy in Excel. [Unless the first equation has an error. Then EVERYTHIING is wrong.]
