Combinations Question

A survey of 11th Grade students was conducted to determine how many are taking math. D = Data, C = Calculus A =Functions

The Venn diagram shows the results:

c) How many are taking both Data and Functions?

d) How many are taking all 3?

f) How many are not taking Calculus?

Please provide how you got/found the answer for each please.

Thank you for the solution/help, but if 12 is for students taking all 3, how is c) 13 (12 + 1), if it says just both data and functions? Also for f) it's supposed to be 9 but I didn't understand why.

Learn to find INTERSECTIONS (in both or all). Try light colors -- one for D and one for A. When both colors, that is 13. Add another color; for all three, that is 12. Now, there are 4+1+2 outside of C and 2 more in the Universe (lower left corner) that are not in any of D.C. or A. Add them to get 2+4+1+2 = 9.

Note: Most problems like this start with the intersection all all circles, then the intersection of two or more circles, then totals for each circle, and lastly, the Universe total.
