When there is a compare contrast essay, I like to organize my thoughts first. Just get a Venn diagram down and start filling it in with facts you know about each.
From there you can come up with a plan for the essay based on how long it's expected to be. Each paragraph can be a new fact and you can pick your top 3 or 5 facts you want to go with from your diagram. From there, you just need examples from history for each fact. And boom, you've got an essay that just needs sentences to string it all together.
