Biology undergrad looking to help tutor math, science, and music
so if you want 50 gallons at 65% pure antifreeze that would be 0.65x50= 32.5 gallons of pure antifreeze in the mixture
the first brand gives you 0.6 gallons of pure antifreeze per gallon of total solution
the second brand gives you 0.85 gallons of pure anitfreeze per gallon of solution
so you want to use more of the first brand than the second or the perfect pure antifreeze will be too high
you should use 40 gallons of the first brand and 10 gallons of the second brand
double check using this formula 0.6x + 0.85y = 32.5
0.6x40 = 24 and 0.85x10 = 8.5
24+8.5 = 32.5 gallons of pure anti freeze, totalling 50 gallons of solution
let me know if this worked for your question!
