Hello! The semi-colon is another tool to help you write compound sentences. Instead of always joining independent clauses with coordinating conjunctions like "and" or "but," you can remove the coordinating conjunction, and replace it with a semi-colon. It's easy to do, and it adds variety and versatility to your writing.

Hi, there are other uses! Semi-colons precede conjunctive adverbs, like however, nevertheless, etc. They also are used instead of commas in a serial list where the items in the list are long or have internal punctuation.
