A verb tense identifies what way the given verb is being used grammatically in a piece of writing, thereby shaping the overall structure and tone of the sentences therein in terms of the direction they set for the syntax.
The three primary verb tenses are: past tense, present tense, and future tense.
There are also the following verb tenses: past progressive tense, present progressive tense, past perfect progressive tense, present perfect progressive tense, future perfect tense, simple present tense, and simple past tense.
