"The Cask of Amontillado" is such a great story. I will say, I believe the answer to this question is a matter of opinion, but I will share my thoughts. I think that the first-person point of view does make me as a reader more sympathetic toward Montressor. However, I think it's important to examine the fact that Montressor's telling of the story may make him an unreliable narrator. We know the story only from his perspective and from what he chooses to tell us. We don't get any outside information that isn't filtered through him.
