Whenever you have a question like this, set it up as a ratio. In this case, cups of milk over batches of pancakes.
2.75/1 = c/3
2.75 is the 2 and 3/4 cups of milk. 1 is the batch of pancakes. C is the cups of milk we don't know. 3 is the batches of pancakes we want to make.
Now you cross multiply -- multiply the top of one fraction by the bottom of the other, then multiply the bottom of the first fraction by the top of the other.
2.75 x 3 = 1 x c
Since 1 x c = c, your answer is c = 8.25. You will need 8.25 (or 8 1/4) cups of milk to make 3 batches of pancakes.
