1. Explain why some substances are secreted from the blood into the filtrate as it passes along the tubule and why does this vary.

this has to do with a number of things. primarily it is determined by the forces exerted on the contents of the vessel- both hydrostatic and osmotic. it can vary based on the size and charge of the molecule/substance as well as the size and charge of the pores in the membrane
