Hi! I can help. To begin there are a couple of key steps you can take to summarizing an article. A good way to start is to read the article over carefully. Look at key details and important events to add to your summary. For example, you would start this summarization by answering different questions a reader might have about the article. How long was David Biro sentenced for and why? What event occurred to cause these murders? What happened afterward?
I would begin the summary like this: David Biro was sentenced to life without parole for the 1990 murders of Nancy and Richard Langert in Winnetka.
This is straight to the point and gives us the main point of the article.
Once you have your main details and events in place be sure to read over your paragraph to remove any redundant information. This may include minor details, repetitive information, and anything that doesn't add to your main points. In this article, an example of this would be excessive information on Biro's mental past or the initial shock to the community.
Be sure to format your summary to tell a story from start to finish. This way you can keep it consistent.
I hope this helps!
