adding 8 gallons meant adding 4/10 of the total possible

8 = (4/10)T

T = (10/4)8 = 20 gallons maximum possible

originally it had 1/10 of 20 = 2 gallons. Add 8 gallons and it's 10 gallons which is half of 20
