The Great Compromise was a combination of the New Jersey Plan and the Virginia Plan. In regards to representation what elements of each plan was used in the Great Compromise? Explain how is this represented in todays government.

The Virginia Plan:

1. bicameral legislature (Today this is the House of Representatives and the Senate)
2. representation would be based on population size and tax revenue.
3. The national executive and judiciary (now known as the president and supreme court) would be chosen by the legislature**

The New Jersey Plan:

1. one state, one vote (equal representation regardless of state population)
2. this is the basis of the Senate (every state regardless of population gets two votes)
3. The executive office would appoint the supreme court**

**The executive office appoints/nominates the supreme court justices, the Senate confirms the nominee.
