Patience and time with yourself is key!
I always share this tip with my public speaking students:
Practice speaking about a subject that you are passionate about/something you greatly enjoy doing in front of a mirror (by yourself) for a little bit (1-2 weeks is a good start, but you can adjust to your preference). Get comfortable speaking excitedly and passionately about the topic with yourself.
Then, start speaking in small groups, such as to family, friends, or even try to participate more in group discussions in class. For instance, by speaking about your favorite hobby or sport at the dinner table, is great practice on obtaining more confidence. Practicing with a topic that you are very familiar with or passionate about is also a great starting point for becoming relaxed when speaking because you are knowledgeable and excited about the topic! Then, you may start to feel comfortable in larger settings with different topics over time.
Its okay to make mistakes and be gentle on yourself :)
another tip for in-class public speaking: if you can, prepare a response ahead of time to calm the nerves. for instance, if you have to speak in class and you know the topic, prepare a couple of sentences or so prior, that way you have starting material to go off of. (I do not recommend relying on this method frequently)
Hope this helps!

Understand your self-worth and actively take action to improve it. Many people turn to religion; exercise; cook healthy foods; and/or find hobbies they enjoy that build up their self-esteem. Most importantly and ironically, surround yourself with people you can trust and who appreciate your personality!
Remember, nothing is accomplished with a snap of the fingers. Give yourself time to find or expand upon the activities you enjoy that build upon your character. If someone is not good for your health, leave and/or distance yourself from them. Life happens, just because you fail one time does not mean you should simple give up!
Strive to be someone who is proud of themselves; their achievements; and contributions. You are the author of your own story, get out there... one step at a time!
