If you are having a hard time reading and understanding the speeches, I would recommend looking up the speeches on the internet for the audio version.
When reading the speeches, seek to understand the cultural context of the writers. Put yourself in the mindset of the writer to understand the words and phrases they are using. Sometimes language can be a bit outdated so you may need to research phrases, thoughts, or look up commentary from others who have already researched the work you are reviewing. Don't allow yourself to get stuck!
Keep in mind:
- Which author is being straight forward with their audience?
- Which orator (speaker) is making the message clear without the audience having to guess the intent?
As a #1 bestselling author and a coach to other writers, I have learned to keep it simple when interpreting the works of others. Don't overthink it and take your time to understand the writer's mindset.
I hope this helps you in completing your assignment.
Best of luck!
