We know that parallel lines have the same slope, therefore we already know the slope of the line we are trying to solve for: 12! Write out this progress as so:
y = mx + b
y = 12x + b
Now, we just have to solve for b!
Plug in the point that we are given, with 4 for y and -8 for x.
y = 12x + b
4 = 12(-8) + b
4 = -96 + b
Do a wee bit of algebra to figure out that b = 100!
The equation of the line that is parallel to y = 12x + 4 and passes through (-8,4) is y = 12x + 100.
